Things That Are Beautiful

Some things that are beautiful, wonderful, splendid, though you will find people in almost every segment of our culture who don’t think so:

-People who proclaim the Gospel of Jesus’ salvation by grace through faith in Him (Isaiah 52:7, Romans 10:15).

-A gentle wife who Christfully submits to her husband (1 Peter 3:1-6, Ephesians 5:22-24).

-A gentle husband who sacrificially loves and Christfully sanctifies His wife (1 Peter 3:8, Ephesians 5:25-33).

-The eternal singing of redeemed Africans, Mayans, Europeans, Arabs, Babylonians, Romans, Indonesians and a thousand others, all to the greatness of Jesus of Nazareth (Revelation 5:8-10).

-The Roman cross where Jesus was mocked, tortured, murdered, and bore the wrath due His people (Colossians 1:20, 2:14).

-The entire universe before Adam’s sin (Genesis 1:1-31).

-Caring for the poor (Proverbs 14:20, 31).

-The glory of the God of Israel (Psalm 138:5, 1 Corinthians 10:31, and pretty much the entire Bible.

-Secret, unbragged generosity (Matthew 6:1-4).

-God’s good, predestined will (Acts 4:27-31, Romans 8:30, 9:14-24, Ephesians 1:3-6).

-God’s pouring out of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:33-36).

-The resurrection of Jesus and the coming bodily resurrection of each of His people (1 Corinthians 15:1-28).

-Mercy and compassion toward anyone who need them (Luke 10:25-37).

-The wrath and judgment of Jesus Christ on sin and unrepentant sinners (Revelation 11:15-18).

-The new Heaven and earth He will make (Revelation 21:1-7, Isaiah 65:17-19).

-A man leaving his mother and father and joining himself to one woman for the rest of his life (Genesis 2:18-25).

-Being persecuted or hated for Jesus’ sake (John 15:18-21).

-Knowing Jesus Christ and His forgiveness (Philippians 3:7-11).

The point that I’m attempting to make is that we should never forget that God knows what is truly good, offers what is truly good, and is what is truly good. We should trust His Word to teach us and guide us to all things lovely. He is a far more reliable guide than the world and its confused, idolatrous siren songs.

*Note: By no means are the verses listed exhaustive. Each of these are gleaned from many parts of God’s Word. I’ve simply tried to give a sampling.
